Not a Crime? Some people may argue that the spill should not be treated as crime because it is just the risks associated with drilling and it was truly an accident. BP could have had no intent in committing such a heinous act. Recklessness, negligent, concealment, and knowledge were all absent from the spill and that this solely occurred as a freak of nature. The assertion that BP had not met any of those standards means that BP had no knowledge that this was a foreseeable risk, and that what happened to the ecosystem and economies is something that they shouldnââ¬â¢t be liable for. The notion to say that this didnââ¬â¢t happen is to pass the blame off onto other companies such as Halliburton, or Trans-Ocean which would direct the blame from BP to the other accused companies but since they were in the sole operation of the well it would be hard to pass the blame off on to other companies that may or may not of been involved.
